What do you do for a living?
I am currently managing community outreach + events for Juice Society and also overseeing projects + campaigns for IT'S TIME TEXAS.
Are you on any special diet?
Been there, done that. All of 'em. I've been Paleo, Vegan, a dangerous mix of both, a "clean-eater," a Pescatarian, a macro counter. While "diets" stem from a good place by encouraging mindfulness of what you are consuming, they are also all based on the core value of restriction and inducing guilt when you stray from the rules. I have Celiac's Disease, so I avoid gluten, but as of now, everything is fair game. I try to eat home-cooked meals throughout the week, eat minimally-processed foods with very little added sugar, and limit my alcohol consumption during the week. If I have a craving, I'll indulge it. Pizza, burgers, and ice cream are my best friends and when they call I come running.
WHAT DOES YOUR WORKOUT ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
It's funny to look back and think that I used to plan my college class schedule around my gym regimen. Now, I aim for 4-5 workouts a week. Exercise for me includes HIIT circuits, lifting weights, yoga, running, spin class, walking the dog, and hiking. Every day is different and depends on what I'm in the mood for. I benefit from my workouts more when I listen to my body and don't force anything upon it.
WHY DID YOU RE-BRAND FROM A FOOD BLOG?
When I was finally able to sit down and be honest with myself, I realized that food blogging actually stressed me out and took away from the catharsis of cooking for me. Lifestyle writing with no pressure or deadlines is much more organic to me and now I can cook in peace and my boyfriend doesn't have to eat his food cold.
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH YOUR FAMILY?
It would probably take me a year to draw my family tree. Long story short: 4 mothers. 9 half-siblings across the country who all share a sperm donor. It's tight and I wouldn't trade my story or my family for the world.
